South Asia Photo journalists Association convention to begin on Nov 10

Karachi: The first convention of the South Asia Photojournalists Association (SAPA) will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf on November 10 at the Frere Hall.This was announced by Azmat Ataka of the Japan Cultural Centre at a joint press conference held at the press club here on Monday.

The event is being organised by the Pakistan Association of Photojournalists in collaboration with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Pakistan Japan Cultural Association Sindh, the Consulate General of Japan, Karachi, and the Karachi Press Club.

The two-day convention will conclude on November 11 and the chief guest of the concluding session will be Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Ahmed KhuhroThe press photographs titled “The rising of a nation; Japan’s devastation and recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake” will be held on November 12 at the Japan Cultural Centre and Consul General Japan Akira Ouchi will declare the exhibition ceremony open.

The show will be open to the public from November 13 to November 17.More than 100 participants from across the country will take part in the photographic exhibition. Foreign participants coming from different parts of the country include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Japan and the US.

The idea behind the convention is to bring closer the photojournalists of the Saarc countries and the world and to tackle the common problems being faced by them collectively, besides promoting peace and democracy through healthy journalism in South Asia.
