Solangi calls for cooperation among media organisations

Islamabad–Director General Radio Pakistan Murtaza Solangi on Friday emphasized the need for greater cooperation and partnership among the media organizations of the region and the world to meet the present day challenges.

Addressing inaugural session of the two-day Asia Media Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam, he spoke of the challenges being faced by Pakistan on account of terrorism and extremism and said in such a scenario, the role of the media has become very critical. The Director General said that the challenges for the stakeholders towards development, democracy, disaster and climate change can be met through the use of a combination of cell phones, internet and satellite communication.

Sharing Pakistan’s experiences, Murtaza Solangi said that Radio Pakistan has started streaming five channels on internet and it is now contemplating partnership with a satellite radio network. He said that Radio Pakistan has started a new program at the level of community stations teaching public about the linkages between deforestation and deadly catastrophies. He said that Radio Pakistan along with other media organizations played a pivotal role during the natural disasters and kept the public informed about the latest news during 2005 earthquake and the last year’s floods. Murtaza Solangi also presided over the session of conference on capacity building and strategies in the digital media landscape.
