Sister kidnapped in retaliation for FIR of wife’s abduction

KARACHI: When Asghar Haidar lodged an FIR against influential kidnappers for abducting his sister, they barged into his house and also kidnapped his wife within the Sohrab Goth police jurisdiction. To add insult to injury, police, instead of taking legal action against the nominated accused persons, are pressurising the complainant to compromise with the criminals. Haidar, a resident of Umrani Goth, Scheme-33, has requested all the authorities, in the name of Allah, humanity, and moral and legal norms, to recover his abducted sister and wife from the illegal captivity of kidnappers, who are threatening the victim with dire consequences.

Asghar Haider, who visited the Karachi Press Club along with his legal adviser and minor son, told The News, “I am the most unlucky man in the world, whose sister had been kidnapped and when I lodged FIR against kidnappers they abducted my wife too.” “Why propagate all this stuff about women’s rights when the government is not able to provide safe and secure lives to the women”, the distraught victim said, adding that none of the NGOs and any Human or Woman right’s activists were raising a voice against this extreme cruelty. Narrating his story Asghar Haidar, said that on April 9, 2006, Haji Saathi Shaikh, Ali Nawaz Shaikh, Nasrullah Shaikh, Ali Muhammad Shaikh, and Shahnawaz Shaikh, barged into his house in Umrani Goth and kidnapped his 15-year-old sister Rabia, whose Nikah had been processed in childhood with one Shahid, a resident of Rahimyar Khan.

When he approached the Sohrab Goth police they simply refused to lodge the FIR, and the complainant had to run from pillar to post to get the FIR lodged. After hectic efforts, Asghar succeeded in having the FIR filed on May 23. After registration of case the arrest of the nominated accused persons was another problem. However police arrested Ali Nawaz, on June 6. This arrest miffed the kidnappers, who instead of being repentant, turned even more malevolent and in the night between June 26 and 27, they barged into the house, kidnapped Haider’s wife, Samina, and took her away forcibly, leaving her infant child at the home. Another FIR, regarding kidnapping of Samina, was also lodged with the same Sohrab Goth police and Haji Saathi, Nasrullah, Muhammad Moosa, Muhammad Yousuf, Muhammad Khan, Dilbar Khan, Ali Nawaz, Ali Muhammad, Liaquat Ali, and two unidentified persons were nominated as the accused, but the nominated accused persons started threatened to victim family. “Whenever they threatened me and my mother, I informed the police regularly, but police instead taking legal actions against kidnappers, started pressurising me to compromise with those very people who had kidnapped my sister and then my wife”, Asghar complained.
