Sindh govt denies CPNE charges
KARACHI – A Sindh government spokesman has strongly contradicted the allegations leveled by the Secretary General of CPNE against the government action of banning five newspapers.
He clarified that these newspapers were not only tarnishing the image of the press but also promoting vulgarity and immorality in society.
He said: “People from all walks of life many times complained with consistency against these newspapers involved in publishing objectionable material.
“After receiving these complains and upon our own monitoring, warnings from time to time were issued to the Editors and Publishers of these newspapers to refrain from printing such matter.
“The copies of such notices were also sent to the ‘Media Committee’ constituted by the Government of Sindh of which APNS and CPNE’s representatives are also the members. But, unfortunately these newspapers gave no heed to such warnings and continued publishing vulgar and indecent photographs and stories.
The spokesman expressed his surprise on the ignorance shown by CPNE on this issue, as they were kept fully informed by the Information Department.
“Whenever any notice was issued to the newspapers, a copy was endorsed to the committee members as well, whereas they even did not bother to attend meetings of Media Committee to discuss this issue despite intimation to them.”
The spokesman emphasized that along with government, responsibility also lies on the representative bodies of the press not to support such newspapers, which have very badly tarnished the image of journalism.
