Sindh Bank to hire over 1,000 staff for 50 branches

Karachi: The newly established Sindh Bank is likely to recruit over 1,000 staffers for opening around 50 branches this year to disburse Rs12 billion loan for boosting agriculture production, according to President/CEO of the bank, Muhammad Bilal Shaikh.

He was giving briefing to Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah at CM House during a meeting of the bank’s board of directors on Monday.

He informed that out of 50 branches, one each branch would be opened in all the 23 districts of the province, while two branches would be established at every divisional headquarters and the remaining branches would be opened at various business centres in Sindh and other provinces.

Regarding employment opportunities, Bilal Shaikh said that more than 1,000 staff was being recruited in the first year that comprises 300 support staff, 350 graduates, 250 postgraduates and 100 senior officers.

The number of staff will be increased with the opening of more branches in the coming days, he added.

Shaikh said that with an expected loan disbursement of Rs12 billion during the year 2011 in various sectors, it was envisaged that at least 6000 unskilled and semi-skilled workers would be employed on the assumption that any concern / small scale industry availing loan of Rs10 million would need five workers.

He said that the bank has started working in full swing, as President Asif Ali Zardari inaugurated first branch in Naudero on December 26, 2010. According to him, the aims and objectives of the bank are to provide service and render activities for the benefit of the people.

The bank will increase commercial activity / industrialization as well as stabilizing population movement, generating employment opportunities, improving agricultural output and standard of living. With regard to social uplift, there will be people’s empowerment, particularly women, besides supporting public-private partnership in infrastructure projects which will also supplement government’s efforts in the rehabilitation of flood victims.

All the branches of Sindh Bank will be online and the accounts would be opened in real-time online mode.

Sindh Bank will be issuing multiple ATM cards having different names/ addresses and schemes like Benazir Zarai Card, Benazir Income Support Card and employees’ salary cards, besides offering Internet / e-banking and opening of home accounts, etc.

Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that the purpose of establishing Sindh Bank was to help people in their efforts to boost agriculture and industrial sectors in order to accelerate economic activity in backward areas of the province.

Shah directed for making concerted efforts to open maximum number of branches of Sindh Bank in every nook and corner of the country, particularly in the province of Sindh.

He stressed the need for making the bank popular, saying, during his recent visit to the Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry the industrialists, traders and businessmen expressed their full satisfaction about the bank. Shah said that the people of interior parts of the province have been taking interest and it would be further feasible that some industrialists and traders be inducted in the bank’s board of directors.

He said that President Asif Ali Zardari and the provincial government have been fully supporting the bank and all efforts would be made for the development and progress of the bank.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Sindh Finance Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Chief Secretary Sindh and Chairman of Sindh Bank Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha, Additional Chief Secretary (P&D) Ishaque Lashari, Sindh Secretary Finance Muhammad Siddique Memon and Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh Ahmed Bux Narejo.
