Sikh community strikes accord with Nadra

Karachi: The National Database & Registration Authority, (Nadra) has been following the government policy regarding the fair treatment of minorities who should not be discriminated against on the basis of religion or sect with respect to both registration as well as employment at Nadra.

This was stated by Deputy Chairman Nadra Tariq Malik during a meeting with a five-member-delegation of the Pakistan Sikh Council (PSC) at Nadra’s headquarters on Tuesday.

Chairman of PSC appreciated Nadra’s services as well as the manner in which it facilitated minorities, adding the Malik’s own efforts to ensure cooperation with Gurdhwaras for the registration of Sikh marriages were commendable.He said that NADRA was the only organisation in the region which registered minorities in their national database through multi-biometric technology, thus providing them with a sense of identity.

Chairman PSC further praised NADRA for its efficient and transparent activities across Pakistan and asked that the Sikh community be represented within the organisation. Malik reiterated NADRA’s unbiased policy and their adherence to a minorities’ quota based on merit. Deputy Chairman Malik informed the delegation that NADRA had registered a total of 5852 Sikhs thus far. He also urged young members of the Sikh community who were turning 18 to acquire Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) which were mandatory in order to vote in elections.

While addressing PSC’s concerns, Malik sought the Sikh organisation’s help in the registration process as well as in identifying illegal aliens within the community.By the end of the meeting PSC extended its support in facilitating the registration process.
