Sherry warns officials against irregularities

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sherry Rehman has directed officials of the ministry and its attached departments to desist from violating rules, warning that strict disciplinary action will be taken against violators.

“The minister has taken a serious view that officers/ officials of the corporations/ departments under the administrative control of this ministry, dealing with various development

projects, have been approaching the Planning Commission (Public Investment Programming Section) directly for allocation and readjustments of the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) funds for projects

without consultation and prior approval of the ministry,” says a directive issued by Additional Secretary Information Fazalur Rahman Malik.

The directive, titled “allocation of PSDP funds for development projects”, said this practice was in sheer violation of the rules of business of the federal government and the system of financial control and budgeting.

It advised all concerned to desist from such violations and infraction, asking them to strictly adhere to the established rules and regulations immediately without fail.

Non-compliance in this regard would invite instant disciplinary action against the concerned by the ministry, warned the directive, copies of which were sent to the director-general of the Pakistan Broadcasting

Corporation as well as the

managing directors of the Pakistan Television Corporation (PTC) and the Associated Press of Pakistan Corporation (APPC).

“The minister has directed the officials to shun the corrupt practices of the past and adhere to rules.

She has asked the concerned quarters to extend full cooperation to private media organisations,” an official told The News.

“The minister has directed officers not to devise policies which smack of, in any way, putting curbs on the functioning of the media organisations,” he added.

The official said the minister had directed officers of the ministry as well as the attached departments to develop zero tolerance with regard to irregularities and misuse of the state funds.
