Sherry gives Rs one million to journalist’s widow
KARACHI (June 08 2008): On behalf of the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ms Sherry Rehman, a cheque of Rs one million was presented to Ms Gulshan Ara, widow of Arif Khan. The cheque was handed over by the Director General Public Relations, Press Information Department Karachi, on Saturday.
Arif Khan, cameraman of the news channel ARY One World, lost his life in the course of duty while covering the rally of Benazir Bhutto on October 18, 2007. Ms Gulshan Ara thanked the Sherry Rehman for the support and kind gesture.
Sherry has taken several initiatives for the welfare of journalists as part of the policy of the present government and has accelerated the cause of freedom of the press and rights of media.
