SHC advises media about reports on Abbas Steel

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has restrained electronic and print media from televising/publishing any fabricated story against the Abbas Steel Group till 12 July 2010, and only the stories having the version of the said group would be allowed to publish.

Abbas Steel Group lawyer Mansoor-ul-Arfain had filed an application against a private TV channel and national English and Urdu newspapers, alleging them of televising/publishing false, baseless and contradictory untrue stories against the Abbas Steel Group.

He took the stand that these stories were damaging the image and reputation of the Abbas Steel Group, and thus should be stopped. Upon that, the court issued the orders and restrained the above media from televising/publishing and or in any way using derogatory and contemptuous language against the Abbas Steel Group and or making any allegation impairing the reputation of the Abbas Steel Group without verifying and corroborating the authenticity thereof. The court also added that after July 12, 2010, all stories must be based on fair comments and truth and in the public interest and good faith only.
