Shazia flays media for ‘negative’ reporting

Karachi: Provincial Information Minister Shazia Mari on Friday flayed electronic media for televising a report on dancing officials of Sindh Information Department during an event, which the department had organised in connection with the 84th birthday anniversary of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto at a local hotel.

Speaking at the Sindh Assembly session, she lamented the private channels’ reporting was “negative”.

She said that the event during which the personality and services of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for the nation were eulogised was followed by a culture show.

She asserted that PPP members would continue to sing such party songs about Sindh province and Bhutto.

She said such a dance was the culture of Sindh.

She urged the TV channels to avoid such incomplete reporting.

The Sindh Information Department had held an event at a local hotel to pay tribute to Z A Bhutto on his 84th birthday anniversary on Thursday.

Censuring media on Assembly floor by Shazia Mari is not the first incident, as she had recently harshly criticised a senior journalist for a report regarding assembly proceedings, during which her party’s key legislator had opposed a resolution on “Karo Kari” (honour killing) tabled by a lady lawmaker, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi.
