Shaukat assures All Pakistan Newspaper Society (APNS) to remove newspaper duty
ISLAMABAD- All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) President Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman received government assurance that Excise duty levied on newsprint will be removed and opening of L/S will be allowed at zero margin.
The assurance was given APNS chief’s meeting Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Aziz and Federal Information Secretary Anwar Mehmood, APNS sources said. it was also assured that an adjustment would be made in Withholding tax Which will result in convenience to newspaper industry. Its details will be released in a day or two.
It may be mentioned, the sources said, the APNS in its appeal earlier had pointed out that due to increasing price of newsprint in international market, decline in rupee value and the condition to deposit 30 per cent L/C margin for import of newsprint had become an unbearable burden for the newspaper industry.
