Senior tribal journalist killed in bomb attack

PESHAWAR: A senior tribal journalist, Nasrullah Khan Afridi was killed in a bomb explosion in a targeted attack at Khyber Super Market here Tuesday night.
Eyewitnesses said Nasrullah had just boarded his car after returning from a shop near Lala Hotel in Khyber Super Market after faxing news to his media organisation when the bomb went off with a deafening sound around 9:15 p.m.
The blast was so powerful that it was heard in most parts of the city as well as in the nearby rural areas.The car was destroyed in the explosion. The vehicle as usual was parked in a vacant plot of land outside the Askari Mosque. Nasrullah used to leave for his home in Hayatabad Town around the time of the explosion and it was clear that he was being followed.
Initially, some police officials suspected that the CNG kit of the car triggered the explosion. Capital City Police Officer Liaqat Ali also hinted that the CNG kit could have caused the blast. He said that something could, however, be confirmed only after the experts of the Bomb Disposal Unit (BDU) examined the site. The BDU sources said the bomb had been planted in the car.
Information Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussain, who visited the site of the explosion, said that terrorists targeted Nasrullah Afridi by planting explosives in his vehicle. He was all praise for Nasrullah Afridi and said that terrorists were targeting journalists.
