Senior journalist Syed Wahab Ali Kazmi passes away

KARACHI: Senior journalist Syed Wahab Ali Kazmi, Resident Editor of The Nation Karachi, passed away early Thursday morning because of post-heart surgery complications. He was laid to rest at a local graveyard in the afternoon. His friends, journalists, government functionaries and representatives of multinational companies attended Kazmi’s funeral prayers held at Masjid-e-Hira, Model Colony, Malir.
Arif Nizami, Editor The Nation, flew in from Lahore to attend his burial. Mr Nizami expressed deep condolences with the bereaved family and prayed to Allah Almighty to give the family strength to bear the irreparable loss that they had suffered. Mr Kazmi underwent a heart surgery on Tuesday at the NICVD afternoon and was admitted to the ICU. Later in the evening he gained consciousness for a brief period but later he suffered brain haemorrhage, doctors said. He did not regain consciousness and doctors pronounced him dead on Thursday morning.

Mr Kazmi was born in UP in British India in 1940. He got his school and college education in East Pakistan before coming to Karachi. He then went to Britain where he did Masters in Economics from Leads University. He joined The Nation in late 80s and served this publication with distinction till his death. He has left behind a widow, two sons, one daughter, grandchildren.Mr Kazmi was very popular and a friendly figure in journalistic and business communities. Editor Nawa-i-Waqt Karachi Khawar Saeed, Industrialist Usman Masood, PID Director Thakur Das, MCB Public Relations Manager Kafeel Burni, PIA Public Relations GM Imran Ghaznavi, Manager Public Relations PIA Chaudhry Bashir Ahmed, National Foods Chairman Abdul Majeed, Qaiser Masood Jafri of ABL, Tauqeer Mohajir, Sikandar Rehman, Bashir Sadozai, Sajjad Mir, Shamim Akhtar, Pervez George, Khalid Rehman, staff members of Daily Nawai- Waqt and The Nation and a large number of relatives and notables attended Mr Kazmi’s funeral prayers.
Quran Khawani for the departed soul will be held at his residence; C-13, Sheet No-27, Model Colony after Zohar prayers and Soyam will be held after Asr prayers today.
