Sea pollution is on the increase
KARACHI: The sea pollution is increasing with the passage of time. This was stated by former Director General of the National Institute of Oceanography, Dr Shaukat Hayat. He was delivering a lecture on global warming and impact of sea level rise here on Friday at the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FUUAST).
Dr Shaukat was of the view that most of the wind and sea storms occur owing to changes in the sea. He stressed that there was a need to undertake effective steps for the protection of the sea and the coast. It was pointed out that water level in the sea is rising covering more area of the earth.
Dr Shaukat stated that normal level of the water in the seas ensures good health in the shape of high protein seafood such as fish etc. The seas generate wealth to the tune of trillions of dollars in the shape of oil. Gas, mineral, flora and fauna etc. Registrar of the FUUAST, Prof Dr Qamarul Haq, said on the occasion that the lecture was useful for creating awareness among the students for the protection of sea pollution.
