Sarfaraz murder case: Awaz TV BC identifies seven accused in ATC

KARACHI: Bureau Chief (BC) of Awaz television channel, Zahid Hussain Khokhar, on Saturday identified six personnel of paramilitary force and a civilian as accused before the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC-I) during hearing of a case of shooting to death of youth Sarfaraz Shah at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park, Karachi on June 8, 2011.

Recording his statement in ATC-I, Khokhar, who was also the host of a programme, testified that he addressed applications to Chief Justice of Pakistan and provincial government authorities for protection as unknown callers were threatening him for airing video footages of the incident.

Khokhar said on the day of incident, he along with his cameraman, was looking for a location to record his programme at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Park, when he saw a personnel in white civil dress beating Sarfaraz. Khokhar said soon a mobile van of the Rangers force rushed to the scene after which the man in white dress handed over Shah to them.

He testified that he heard the Rangers personnel saying ‘kill him, kill him’. Then, he saw one tall personnel in uniform who fired two bullets on Shah, who fell down crying. Many people at the park got terrified and ran away.

Khokhar said he asked his cameraman to record the entire scene and protect it from being wasted. At night, newsroom aired those footages. He said he was still in state of shock and cannot work properly. Deputy Inspector General Sultan Khawaja, who was Investigation Officer in the case, was present. Judge ATC-I Bashir Ahmed Khoso adjourned hearing till July 18, 2011.
