Salik expresses solidarity with journalists

Islamabad: Convener world minorities’ Alliance and Pakistan Human Rights organizer former Federal Minister J.Salik organized a rally here Friday to express solidarity with the journalists injured outside election commission office on September29.

Addressing the gathering J.Salik said that the police torture on journalists, advocates and social society activities was very shameful.

Condemning the violent torture he demanded the government to adopt protective measures for journalists because they portray the original face of society.

He further stated that journalists are the fourth pillar of the state that should be protected.
He further added, “I really appreciate the journalists and photographers for their dedication”. They are hard working community that points out gray areas of the society”.

He vowed to maintain and boast his full support for journalists who are struggling for waving the flag of truth. On the behalf of the nation, Salik thanked press club and journalist community for their struggle against dictatorship.

“Imposing ban and restrictions on media will drive citizens toward terrorism. However, journalist and Human Rights organizations should continue their struggle for truth to protect the society against upcoming dangers. The wrong policies of government in present scenario is becoming a security risk,” he added.

Earlier Afzal Butt, President RIUJ in his address to the rally stated that it is the duty of the journalists to raise voice against crime and misuse of power and we are proud of it. He further said that no on could restrict us from performing our duty.

Salik presented five 6’4″ feet tall pens to journalists as a tribute to their sacrifices in the line of duty.
