Rally against emergency, media curbs

HYDERABAD: Scores of workers, labourers and representatives of labour unions here on Wednesday brought out a rally from the Hyder Chowk to the Hyderabad Press Club against the imposition of emergency and the curbs on the media.

They called for early resumption of Geo transmission and an end to the emergency rule in the country. The rally was taken out under the banner of Pakistan Workers Confederation (PWC) and was attended by a large number of labourers and workers of different trade bodies and labour unions.

Abdul Latif Nizamani and others led the protest rally and spoke outside the HPC. Later, the rally participants dispersed peacefully. Meanwhile, a protest meeting was held at the HPC where media persons and political leaders condemned the curbs on the media.The meeting participants condemned the government action against the media, especially the shutting down of Geo transmission and demanded the reopening of Geo channels.

STPP Chairman Dr Qadir Magsi, Sahibzada Abul Khair Mohammed Zubair of MMA, Gul Mohammed Jakhrani of SNF, Abdul Wahid Aresar of JSQM, Ayaz Latif Palejo Advocate, media representatives and office bearers of the press club spoke on the occasion.
