QUETTA: There is no news about a journalist allegedly arrested by an intelligence agency three days ago. His family fears that he would be tortured by the agency.

Journalists Javid Lehri and his friend Abdul Rehman were arrested from the hostel of Degree College Khuzdar at midnight on November 29, Daily Azadi Editor Mohammad Asif said on Sunday. Lehri, 24, is a reporter for Azadi. Police denied knowledge of Lehri’s arrest. However, the police said Lehri was wanted in another case, but that they didn’t raid the hostel. Asif said that he asked Lehri to cover a protest rally after the death of Nawab Akbar Bugti. During the protest, he said, some unidentified people shot at the police.

Instead of apprehending the real culprits, he said, the police fabricated a case against Lehri. Asif said the family of the missing reporter was terrified, and feared that their son would be tortured. “Lehri’s father demands his son be produced before a court,” he said. Meanwhile, journalists in Khuzdar and some other areas demonstrated against Lehri’s arrest.
