PTV fee collection agency ordered to stop checking
KARACHI, JANUARY 4 (APP): A division bench of Sindh High Court (SHC) has ordered RCS, the fee collecting agency for PTV to stop house to house checking for VCR fee immediately.
The Court issued the order on a constitutional petition moved by Consumer Protection Council (CPC) OF Helpline Trust (THT).
The CPC had challenged the levy of VCR fee praying the court that the collection of this fee may be declared illegal and the court had in an order on December 19 asked the private company collecting the fee to stop door-to door checking.
Despite the SHC order the RCS through a press advertisement on December 29 announced door to door checking.
As such on December 31, CPC moved another urgent application in SHC praying that the threat to citizens may be stopped.
Consequently the division bench of SHC comprising Mr. Justice Kamal Mansoor Alam and Mr. Justice Ghani Sheikh issued the stay order asking the respondents PTV and RCS not to undertake such checking till the next date of hearing.
