PTCL-Singtel moot on improving IP connectivity

KARACHI- Negotiations between Pakistan Telecommunication Co Ltd (PTCL) and Singtel are in process at PTCL headquarters at Islamabad for improving Internet Protocol connectivity procured from the Singaporean telecom giant.

The PTCL, in line with government policy of promoting Information Technology in the country, had leased 155 Mb Internet bandwidth via SMW-3 submarine optic fibre system from Singapore Telecom.

The PTCL had procured the IP connectivity in July 2001 from Singtel. The IP connectivity was established from Karachi to New York. “The talks will cover the measures for further IP connectivity improvement,” said a PTCL spokesman.

Hindrances, which occurred in the transmission of the very IP connectivity, during January-February 2002, would also be discussed in the meeting. Increased co-operation between the PTCL-Singtel would enhance promotion of Information Technology in the country, he added.

“Singtel would be asked to take remedial measures, to avoid future breaks in the system and to incorporate appropriate condition in the revision of the agreement providing service level provision and compensate in case of default,” the spokesman said.
