PTCL introducing world class products in telecom sector

ISLAMABAD (June 26 2008): Irregular, market competition, 50 percent cut in working force, lethargic business attitude and irresponsible behaviour to the customers have forced PTCL to bring about revolutionary changes in its service delivery system introducing new world class products in telecom sector.

Executive vice president of PTCL Arshad Niaz said at a ‘Telecom Summit’held here on Wednesday. The Summit was organised by South Asian Middle East North Africa (Samena) telecom council in collaboration with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), Diamond sponsor PTCL, Teralight and Satcom. Arshad Niaz said that most of the projects have failed mainly due to management shortcomings.

He said that technological advancement, in the telecommunication sector would further improve mobile TV in a positive manner. He added that it would lead to a new blend of multimedia convergence, he added.

Sohail Minhas of the IT industry, introducing PTCL Smart said that PTCL Smart is a generic product line from PTCL that will allow its customers to access applications such as television, broadband, telephony and other interactive services.

He said that smart TV is a PTCL digital multi channel television service that would deliver television programmes to households via broadband connection using the inter-net protocol (IP) technology. He said that wireless technologies are attractive for all countries seeking to ensure access to information communication technologies (ICT) and the creation of the information society.

He added that spectrum is a scarce source resource but which has to be managed and exploited efficiently to yield desired outcomes like investment returns or economic or social growth.

Tomas Wilson said that Pakistan is far from adopting 3G rate, which has been on the rise in the Samena region. He added that Long Term Evolution (LTE) of 3G is the solution to the growing end user demands for high speed data services over mobile networks.
