According to the Daily Times, The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has launched a series of raids aimed at curbing the illegal activation of SIM cards and shutting down unlicensed Internet Service Providers (ISPs). The crackdown comes as part of the PTA’s ongoing efforts to regulate the telecommunications sector and ensure compliance with regulations.

In a statement released by the PTA, it was confirmed that several successful raids had been conducted in various parts of the country. These raids resulted in the seizure of equipment used for illegal SIMs activation and the closure of unlicensed ISPs operating in violation of regulations. The PTA emphasized its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the telecommunications industry and protecting consumers from fraudulent activities.

According to the PTA, the illegal activation of SIM cards poses serious security risks and undermines the effectiveness of regulatory measures put in place to combat terrorism and other criminal activities. By cracking down on illegal SIMs activation, the PTA aims to enhance security measures and ensure that SIM cards are only issued through authorized channels, thereby reducing the potential for misuse.

Additionally, two operations were carried out to dismantle illegal ISP establishments in Chichawatni. These raids resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of equipment from various sites across Chichawatni, comprising 12 Optical Line Terminals (OLT), 04 dish antennas, 01 Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS), 2 batteries, 350 meters of Optical Fiber Cable (OFC), 01 Optical Network Terminal (ONT), 01 OLT charger, and a manual billing book.

Similarly, the operation against unlicensed ISPs is aimed at ensuring that all Internet service providers operate within the framework of regulations set forth by the PTA. Unlicensed ISPs not only pose regulatory challenges but also jeopardize the quality of service provided to consumers. By shutting down unlicensed ISPs, the PTA seeks to maintain standards of service quality and protect consumers’ rights
