Protesters demand arrest of woman’s killers

HYDERABAD: More than two dozen women belonging to Sikandarabad area of Tando Adam on Monday staged a protest demonstration against the non-arrest of killers of a woman, Sania, who was killed on May 3 allegedly by her in-laws and husband.

The protesters led by the mother of the slain woman, Islam Khatoon, gathered outside the Hyderabad press club and demanded immediate arrest of the alleged culprits.Sania’s relatives told newsmen that the husband of the woman, Nadeem, resident of Union Council 10 in Liaquat Colony, Hyderabad, and his sisters Yasmeen, Almas and Bano allegedly burnt her to death.

They said Sakhi Pir police initially refused to register a case against the culprits and lodged a case after three days only against the husband, who was arrested. Nadeem was getting VIP treatment in detention, the protesters alleged.

They alleged that the UC 10 Nazim is supporting the accused and also issuing threats to family members and other relatives of Sania. They added that on an application sent to the inspector-general of police Sindh, the AIG was made inquiry officer but the staff of the AIG office also threatened them with dire consequences.

Sania’s mother threatened to commit self-immolation outside the Tando Adam press club if all the culprits were not arrested within five days, saying that the killers, the UC Nazim and senior police officers would be responsible for this.
