Protest against journalist’s killing in Lal Masjid action

On the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), the Khyber Union of Journalists Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against the killing of a private TV channel cameraman and injuries to other journalists during the Lal Masjid clashes in Islamabad.

Dozens of journalists gathered in front of the Press Club to protest against the killing and injuring of journalists during crossfire. The protesters were led by KhUJ General Secretary Nasir Hussain, Senior Vice-president Samin Jan and Press Club president M Riaz. The protesters were carrying placards and banners inscribed demands of protection to journalists. The protesters marched on the Sher Shah Sori Road and chanted slogans against the government for its failure in providing protection to the journalists during the Lal Masjid like crises.

They demanded the government to announce Rs2 million as compensation for the deceased. They expressed grave concern over violence against media men and demanded the government to redress the grievances of the journalists about their security.
