Prime Minister has approved health cards for journalists: Governor tells Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ)

A delegation of Karachi Union of Journalist (KUJ), led by its president, Rashid Aziz, called on Governor Sindh Imran Ismail at Governor’s House on Wednesday. They discussed various problems and challenges faced by Journalists particularly during the COVID period with the governor and apprised him about the initiative and steps being taken by the union for the welfare of the fraternity. On the occasion, the governor said that in this period of corona pandemic, journalists had also actively participated in various awareness campaigns as corona warriors. He said that today, the whole world was grappling with this pandemic and every person has to realise their responsibility. He said that journalists had more responsibility in making society aware and urged that they should spread message through awareness programmes related to wearing masks, proper distancing and cleanliness. He said that more awareness should be created especially in rural areas. He said that people should follow the guidelines of the NCOC/government and to defend oneself and others with this resolve. The delegation apprised the governor of different problems and issues faced by working journalists including health cards and housing schemes. Ismail said that the PM had already accorded approval, in principle, for health cards for working journalists of the country. “Modalities are being set at federal level and, in this regard, suggestions are being invited from press bodies from all the provinces to finalise the matter,” he added. The governor Sindh further said that the government was fully committed to promote constructive journalism and resolve all the issues of journalist fraternity.
