PPF welcomes the release of Radio Director in North Kivu

Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) in a letter to Bruno Tshibala, Prime Minister of Democratic Republic of the Congo has welcomed the release of Emmanuel Tusenge Sebazungu, director of Radio Umudiho FM, after being held hostage for six days by unidentified armed men.

PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali in his letter welcomed the release and urged authorities to provide proper security to journalists.

According to Journaliste en Danger (JED), Tusenge was abducted on August 26 by three men armed with guns and knives. The journalist was traveling on his bike when he was abducted and taken to a forest where he was tortured and beaten. The kidnappers then contacted his family and demanded ransom.

On the evening of the sixth day, August 31, at around 8 pm the journalist was released after his family paid the ransom amount. After the release Tusenge was taken to Rutshuru hospital for treatment.

Radio Umudiho FM is a broadcasting station in the Rutshuru territory in the province of North Kivu in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
