PPF to help improve press clubs condition

BADIN: The Pakistan Press Foundation (PPF) is working on improving the condition of press clubs in the whole country and in this regard it would help journalists to set up 20 ‘model press clubs’ in Sindh, said PPF Secretary General Owais Aslam Ali, while speaking at a seminar on constitution of press clubs and their structure at Badin Press Club Wednesday.

The programme was organised by the PPF. On the occasion Victor Joseph, in-charge of Holland-based Free Voice Asia programme, said that press clubs were powerful platforms striving not only for the welfare of journalists, but also raising awareness in society.

His visit was a part of his tour of interior Sindh. He said the press clubs also promoted local culture and acted as a bridge between government and people.

PPF editorial coordinator Muqtada Mansoor said that to make press clubs more viable and functional, they should have their own constitutions and to help press clubs in this regard, the PPF was working on a model constitution.

He said the betterment of press clubs would not only improve the standard of journalism, but social awareness amongst masses could also be raised.

Chairman Election Commission Badin Press Club Muneer Hussain Khawaja replied in a question of Victor Joseph, that press clubs were the centres where journalists meet and share their thoughts about their professional responsibilities as well as local, national and international affairs and press clubs were also training institutions for new journalists.
