Policeman kills woman for pursuing murder case

GUJRAT: A police sub-inspector (SI), involved in the killing of a proclaimed offender (PO) allegedly in a fake shootout some four years ago, shot the latter’s mother dead in Sukhpur village in Tanda police precincts on Tuesday night to press for a compromise in the pending murder trial.

Complainant Muhammad Rasheed said he along with his family members was present in his house when assailants knocked at the door and his wife, Sabira, went to open it. When she opened the door, SI Qadeer Shah and his six accomplices, including Ghulam Rasool and Muhammad Asghar, shot at her, killing her on the spot.

A case has been registered against the fleeing SI, who is currently posted at the Kakrali police station, and his accomplices.

According to sources, the SI had gunned down the complainantÂ’s son, Basharat, alias Basharati, in a “fake” shootout allegedly after being bribed by the victim’s rivals four years ago. An FIR was lodged on the directives of the sessions court judge against SI Qadeer and his accomplices.

The ensuing trial against the SI and his accomplices was about to conclude and they were allegedly forcing the complainant and his wife to stop pursuing the case and compound the offence instead.

According to the sources, SI Qadeer was head of the now defunct “POs Cell” and generally known as “specialist” in killing criminals in ‘fake’ encounters.
