Police torture newsman

MURREE- A newsman was shifted to the Tehsil headquarters hospital after being severely beaten up by police.

Aurangzeb Abbasi, a reporter of an Urdu daily, was tortured by the Murree police when he came here in connection with a case.

The case was registered against several people, including the reporter, who had protested against imposition of toll tax in 1998.

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist (PFUJ) Vice-President C.R. Shamsi also condemned the police torture on the journalist and asked the government to initiate an inquiry into the incident.

Rawalpindi District Nazim (Administrator) ordered the senior superintendent of police to suspend two assistant sub inspectors for misbehaving with the journalist says a press release.
