Police shut down two FM channels

NOWSHERA: Police and security agencies on Sunday, May 31, 2009, closed down two FM radio channels run by a religious outfit in Jahangira and Pirpai.

Briefing the media, District Police Officer Abdullah Khan said the secret agencies and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) informed the police that two illegal FM radio channels were operational in the area. The channels were spreading sectarian hatred among the locals, the DPO alleged. He, however, did not elaborate the kind of broadcast that was objectionable.
