Police assault, illegally detain journalists in Naushehro Feroze

NAUSHERO FEROZE: The local police on Thursday assaulted and illegally arrested two journalists who went to the police station to get information about the arrest of three dacoits.

Reporters Ghullam Mustafa Tagar of The News and Geo News and Zafar Tagar reached the police station on Thursday morning after receiving news of the arrest of three dacoits. The police, however, tortured and illegally detained the reporters for two hours instead of providing them with the information.

According to the reporters, the incident occurred in response to a footage that was aired on TV showing the inhumane behaviour of SHO Naushahro Feroze Wazir Ali Rajar and his team. A week ago, Rajar, along with heavy contingent raided a wedding ceremony in Ayaz Colony and tortured a female artist Fozia Parween of Hyderabad and tried to kidnap her. On the occasion, the team of Geo News reached the spot and covered the incident. Residents protested against the officials and shut down the traffic thereafter.

Hundreds of protesters, including various activists of political parties along with reporters of electronic and print media, reached the police station to condemn the mistreatment of journalists. The protest was led by Naushero Feroze Press Club President Zahid Rajpar Mazher Khaskheli.
