PM for women’s participation in relief efforts

Karachi: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday that women being an important segment of the society can play a significant role in the relief and rehabilitation of flood victims.

Women particularly those representing the political parties can motivate the female population in the collection of food items and other relief goods for the affected families. They can use the system evolved by the provincial governments and National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Gilani was talking to Ms Faryal Talpur MNA and chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Women Wing and Ms Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari who called on him at the Governor House here on Saturday evening.

The prime minister called upon women working in various non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to contribute in this regard and help mitigate the sufferings of women and children in the relief camps. The task of looking after the affected families is enormous and women across the country should play their role.

He specifically appreciated the efforts of Ms Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari for raising funds for the flood-affected people. She would serve as an example for the women of the country.

Ms Faryal Talpur assured the prime minister that the Women’s Wing of PPP would do its best to extend a helping hand for the flood-affected families.

She apprised the prime minister that women workers of the party are working in the flood-affected areas to help women and children.

Ms Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari briefed him on her efforts to raise funds from different sections of the society for the flood-affected families.
