‘Plant for Islamabad’ day held
ISLAMABAD: The ministry of climate change on Wednesday planted trees in large numbers in the federal capital as it marked the “Plant for Islamabad” day.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Climate Change Amin Aslam and the State Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul kickstarted the campaign by planting saplings along with other officials of the ministry at the Zoological Survey of Pakistan’s Botanical Garden.
Speaking at the ceremony, Aslam said that they all have to work to make the country green and clean by planting trees.
He added that the government’s billion tree plantation programme was aimed at bringing about a revolutionary change in the future of the country. He reiterated that Pakistan was listed at seventh on the list of top 10 countries which stand to be most affected by climate change.
In order to mitigate these effects, he said that it was imperative that they plant the maximum number of trees.
He added that the Billion Tree Tsunami programme has now become a trend which was being followed by countries across the world.
Aslam said that this country belonged to us and that we have to keep it clean and free from environmental pollution. He further vowed to make the federal capital free of plastic and urged the youth to own this campaign because these youngsters have to make Pakistan green.
