PFPA praises ban on cable operators

KARACHI, January 04 2005: THE Pakistan Film Industry has praised the government for banning the Indian TV channels and said that this timely step is a boost for the cinema business in Pakistan.

In a press statement on Tuesday January 3, Pakistan Film Producers Association (PFPA) Vice Chairman Jamshed Zafar said that the film industry was not against the cable technology, but some cable operators were involved in illegal and unethical activities.

“Cable operators show local and foreign films without any agreement and government’s permission,” he said, adding that the stage plays being shown on the cable had crossed all ethical limits. He thanked Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and the PEMRA chairman for taking this step for the survival of the film industry.
