=> Peoples Resistance (PR) organised an outdoor versi

Peoples Resistance (PR) organised an outdoor version of “Live with Talat” outside the Karachi Press Club on Wednesday as a symbolic gesture against the ban on the media and the shackled imposed on the judiciary since the imposition of emergency in the country.

The talk show was held in collaboration with the Karachi Press Club (KPC) and the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ). PR is a collaboration of civil society organisations, and concerned citizens. The programme was held to protest against the curbs on the media, especially electronic media, with special reference to the current judicial and political crisis.

The host, Talat Hussain, invited senior journalist Nusrat Javed, Justice (Retd) Fakhruddin G Ibrahim, and Justice (Retd) Wajihuddin Ahmed as panelists.

The guests spoke at length about a number of political developments in the country, and the current judicial crisis. Special reference was made to the judges of the superior courts and the CJP, all of who were deposed for refusing to take oath under the Provisional Constitutional Order (PCO).

The consensus among the speakers was that the new parliament must not validate the extra-constitutional steps taken by the present government. They hoped that judges sacked by military rulers would be reinstated.

The next step taken by PR is a protest rally organised at 04:00 p.m. December 14. Participants will march from Regal Chowk to the KPC, demanding first and foremost, the restoration of the judiciary to the pre-November 3 status, freedom of the media, and the reinstatement of the rule of law.
