Pemra’s directive to cable operators

ISLAMABAD (April 09 2008): Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Tuesday asked cable operators to position Pakistani satellite TV channels on first 30 frequencies as approved by the authority. There are almost 2,500 cable operators distributing pre-recorded signals from different channels to subscribers across the country through setting closed transmission paths.

Earlier, this practice was not being followed by the cable operators with no specified position for the national channels. Every cable operator was using its own pattern in allocating the position to the channels.

The Pemra spokesperson said that instructions had been given in the license terms for the cable operators. The Pemra would not let anyone to disobey its directives, he added. He said that cable operators had been asked to comply with the directives with immediate effect. Non-compliance to this directive would be considered violation of the Pemra laws and the rules, he said.
