Pemra directs cable operators to regularise networking

CHAKWAL: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) issued notices to all cable television operators to regularise their cable networking according to their licenses issued by the Pemra.

Regional General Manager, Muhammad Farooq, in the circular wrote that it has been observed that many cables television operators were operating beyond their operation areas and as required by the terms and conditions of the licenses which results into monopolies and non-satisfactory service to the end users in violation of clause 2.2 and 2.7 of prevalent terms and conditions of Cable Television License. The Pemra directed to establish and maintain their own networking within authorised area of operation within six months as per license terms and conditions failing to comply with the directives of the authority will result in allocation of the area in public interest, the defaulters cable network would be imposed fine or cancellation of the issued licenses. It is worth mentioning here that only in Chakwal, Apna Chakwal Cable Network was functioning by putting illegal cable network in 30 different villages, resulting inflicting of millions of rupees monthly to the national exchequer as the license of the said cable network was issued only for Chakwal city.
