Pemra chief says technical fault put three TV channels off air

ISLAMABAD: Denying that three TV Channels were made off the air on the advice of the Government, Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Chairman Iftikhar Rashid declared the airing off the channel was due to a technical fault.

Talking to BBC Urdu the other day, Pemra Chairman Iftikhar Rashid denied that three TV channels were made off the air on the advice of the Govermnent and said that it was not Pemra or the government decision to put the three channels off air but it was a technical fault and we would try to avoid such situation in the future.
He added that these channels were on air without any hurdle.

To a question about the writ petition filed in the Lahore High Court against two channels, Iftikhar Rashid said Pemra would defend itself if the petition was held against it.

The petitioner claimed that the TV channels were functioning illegally as they were telecasting news and comments about hearing of the presidential references against the Chief Justice of Paklistan in the Supreme Judicial Council which was contempt of court, he added.

We would explain our legal position in the court, he maintained.
