PARACHINAR: Twenty persons, including 13 extremists, were killed as lawlessness reign the restive Kurram Agency for the ninth consecutive day on Sunday.

As the political administration seemingly lacking answer to the ongoing skirmishes, local elders, too abandoned extensive efforts amid reports that the 16-member peace committee constituted by the NWFP governor was attempting to strike a truce between the conflicting groups.

According to report, extremists attacked tribesmen near Mangak security post, killing two of them.

The attack was collectively repulsed by the security forces and the tribesmen killing 13 of the attackers.

Authorities had clamped curfew in the agency ever since the sectarian clashes erupted there on November 16, which remains intact till date.

Continued curfew has made life of the local tribesmen miserable and the population is suffering due to non-availability of food and medicine.

Continued power shut down for the last 40 days have rendered tube wells in the area non-functional and even drinking water has become scarce.

The 45 days of violence have left around 300 people killed and hundreds other injured with the worse has yet to come due to lack of efforts to pacify the situation in the tribal area.

Educational and government institutions in the agency are closed.

Thousands of people have already migrated from the agency while others are demanding security forces to ferry them out of the tribal region in form of convoys.
