Paknet asked to improve Internet service

ISLAMABAD- The Minister for Science and Technology, Prof Atta-ur-Rehman has directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Paknet to take immediate steps to improve the quality of Internet service. In a meeting, he took serious note of the complaints received from many cities regarding quality of Internet service.

Atta during his recent visits to Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin and Kharian, was approached by many citizens with complaints about log-in difficulties and slow download speed. He expressed serious concern over the existing situation and directed the two organisations to come up with solutions in shortest possible time.

The factors behind the problem and various options available to improve the situation were discussed at length in the meeting. The minister asked both the PTCL and Paknet to conduct a technical survey of Internet service in every city at different times of a day and submit a comprehensive report to him within two weeks. Paknet has also been instructed to increase its points of presence. Atta took note that Paknet could not get satisfactory rating in a survey about Internet service.
