Pakistan Press Foundation

Karachi: Senior journalist Hamid Mir on Wednesday received the ‘most resilient journalist’ award by the International Free Press.

He was presented the award in the Hague, the Netherlands.

Hamid Mir began his speech by thanking the event organisers and said it was a great honour to receive the award. He said he had survived assassination attempts but did not want to leave the country as the people of Pakistan stood by him. “I dedicate this award to the people of Pakistan whose bravery, support and resilience is the source of my resilience,” Mr Mir said.

A journalist from Yemen and another from Colombia were nominated alongside the senior journalist. The prestigious award is given to journalists who continue to unearth the truth in the face of danger and threats.

In 2014, Hamid Mir survived an assassination attempt on his life when gunmen shot at his car while he was on his way to Geo’s Karachi office. He was rushed to a hospital where he was treated and subsequently declared out of danger.
