Pakistan seeks Chinese help to set up Media University: Firdous
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan on Tuesday sought Chinese help to set up a Media University in Pakistan to train journalists to use the latest digital media techniques in an efficient way.
Talking to a visiting Chinese media delegation, headed by Deputy Director General of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous region which called on her here, she said her ministry was in consultation with Chinese government for establishing Media University.
This will surely help in cementing media relations between the two countries whose ever-lasting friendship is hallmark of their multi-faceted ties.
Pakistani journalists, she said, could enroll in Chinese universities for doing short courses in media and learn from their chinese friends.
Pakistan was keen to further strengthening its media exchange programmes with China. The mutual visits of the media delegations were a step towards right direction, she said.
Firdous said she would soon be leading a media delegation to China which would provide her an opportunity to see for herself an all round development of China. It also will be a chance to know how the Chinese have successfully met the daunting challenges of the modern times in an increasingly interdependent world economy.
Lauding Chinese support to Islamabad during hard times, she said, there was “no doubt, Pakistan and China are great friends.” She said China had helped Pakistan both in economic and defence fields, adding whenever it needed assistance, Chinese friends stood by its side through thick and thin.
China was also helping Pakistan overcome its energy requirements, she said. Firdous said despite difficult conditions, Chinese technicians and professionals continued to work in Pakistan in different development projects.
She said Pakistan-China relations were not only confined to political level rather both countries were strongly connected through people to people contacts.The exchange of media delegations and cultural contacts was manifestation of their deepening ties in this regard.
Pakistan will like to replicate success story of Chinese development as the latter had made an impressive progress in diffferent fields, said the minister.
Referring to Chinese cultural performance at the Pak-China Friendship Centre here, Firdous said, it was simply wonderful. She called for further expanding cooperation between the two countries in the field of art and culture by exploring new avenues.
She said Chinese artists can give their performance and could organize film festivals in Pakistan. The minister said she had already appointed a focal person to see how Chinese radio and television could be engaged with state- run media institutions to strengthen cooperation in the field of media.
In his remarks, the head of the Chinese delegation Deputy Director General of the Standing Committee of People’s Congress of Xinjianng Maimaitiming Yasheng said during their three day short trip and performance here, they felt the warmth and love of the Pakistani people for them.
The friendship between the two countries, he said, was “higher than mountains and sweeter than honey.”
He said the occasion of the celebration of 60th anniversary of establishment of their diplomatic relations should be used to further enhance cultural and media relations between the two countries.
He also presented a memento of Chinese flower to Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan.
