Pakistan and Russia to co-operate in information technology and telecom fields

KARACHI- The Minister for Information Technology and Communication, Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari, and his Russian counterpart Reiman Leonid Dodojonovich have agreed to enhance the level of Russo-Pak co-operation in the fields of information technology and communication.

Both sides agreed to exchange high level visits and to benefit from each other’s experience to modernise their IT and communication networks for their mutual benefits.

During a meeting at the Russian Ministry of Communication and Information Technology on Sunday, Leghari informed Reiman about the measures taken by Pakistan government to deregulate the communication and IT sectors with a view to attract potential investors.

He said that Pakistan offers excellent opportunities and wide-ranging incentives for overseas investors. Leghari said that President Pervez Musharraf’s visit to Russia in February this year laid the foundation for the friendship between Pakistan and Russia.

It also gave a boost to the development of economic and trade relations between the two countries. He said that Pakistan is keen to interact with Russian entrepreneurs and business houses in the fields of communication and IT specially the development of software industry.

He said that Pakistan wants to further develop its trade and commercial relations with Russia with a view to encourage the private sector to play its due role in the development of communication and IT fields.

He said the results of deregulatory measures would be evident in three months’ time and Russians should not miss this excellent opportunity of investment in Pakistan.

Leghari invited Reiman to visit Pakistan, which he accepted and promised to pay a visit to Pakistan at a convenient time.

The Russian Minister for Communication and Information Technology appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to deregulate its communication sector.

He offered all possible co-operation to Pakistan and agreed to exchange experience and expertise with Pakistan in Information Technology and Communication sector.
