PA resolution to include Holy Quran in syllabus

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Tuesday unanimously adopted a resolution calling for including the Holy Quran into the syllabus of education institutions in the province.

Tabled by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional`s Asma Mamdot, it said the Holy Quran, along with its translation, should be made part of the syllabus.

The House also unanimously passed a resolution expressing concern at cut in supply to industries. Moved by PML-N`s Ziaullah Shah, it said the House was of the considered opinion that the gas supply cut to the industries would not only ruin the sector but also hit the people employed there.

The House recommended to the federal government that if gas reserves were depleting, it should find alternate solution (fuel) instead of cutting the gas supply to the industry.

A resolution moved by PML-Q leader Chaudhry Zaheer seeking construction of water tanks for cattle along all water channels and minors was pended.

Meanwhile, the House rejected the resolutions tabled by Khalid Saleem Bhatti and Samina Khawar Hayat. Bhatti`s resolution was about giving uniforms to clerical staff of the Punjab police as recommended by the Mitha Police Commission and that of Ms Hayat sought special education centres for the disabled people at tehsil level.

A resolution seeking a package of incentives for local as well as foreign investors to establish fertilisers units in Punjab, moved by Chaudhry Asadullah, was disposed of due to absence of the mover.

Meanwhile, PPP`s minority MPA Pervaiz Rafiq alleged that he had been barred from attending Shahbaz Bhatti`s death anniversary on Sunday (March 4) and that police threatened him when he tried to join a ceremony held in this connection.

Law Minister Rana Sanaullah denied the provincial government had any role in the episode. He told the House that the slain federal minister`s brother had barred the MPA from attending the death anniversary.
