Orders probe into Hayatullah’s murder

KARACHI, June 19 2006: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on June 18 announced a judicial inquiry into the killing of tribal journalist Hayatullah Khan. “Last night we decided to order a judicial inquiry and the government will share its outcome with the public after its completion,” said the prime minister while addressing the Safma conference here.

He also announced a compensation of Rs 0.5 million for the bereaved family and free education up to the college level to the children of the slain journalist. Hayatullah Khan had been kidnapped on December 5, 2005 in the Mir Ali town of North Waziristan tribal agency and on June 16 his bullet- riddled .body was found from a mountainous region of the agency. Later, participants of the Safma conference and local Journalists staged a peaceful demonstration against the Hayatullah’s killing, outside the venue of the conference.
