One week for removing billboards

RAWALPINDI – The City District government and Cantonment Board have fixed one-week deadline for removing all kinds of billboards installed in the taking-off areas of airplanes near Airport Road.

The authorities decided to launch an operation after the fixed date against these heavy sized hoarding and billboards as they could cause any mishap in future.

City District government and Cantonment Board authorities took these decisions in a meeting held under the chairmanship of District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas here on Tuesday.

Station Commander Brigadier Sajjad Azam, District Naib Nazim Muhammad Afzal Khokar, Executive District Officer (EDO) Revenue Dr Amber Ali Khan, Director Town Planning Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) Makeen Shehbaz and other officials also attended the meeting.

On this occasion, Station Commander Sajjad Azam informed the participants of the meeting that Pirwadahi Mor would be expanded by making another extra lane so that smooth flow of traffic could be maintained.

He described that this project would be commenced after the consultation with people of the area so that hurdles could be removed to ease the traffic on this road.
Station Commander informed that projects regarding the construction of fly-over near Katcheri Chowk and Pirwadahi Mor are also under consideration.

He maintained that development schemes to construct underpasses at Chohr Chowk and GPO Chowk were also being planned to reduce the traffic mess in these busy areas.
Brigadier Azam maintained that all these development projects would help minimise the traffic problems.

Speaking on the occasion, District Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas apprised the participants that billboards installed on the VIP rout of Airport Road could create risks for the planes and could cause any major accident, therefore, it is necessary to remove all these billboards to avert any untoward situation,” he added.

However, Raja Javed Ikhlas said that this operation against the billboards would be launched after taking all the advertisers in confidence.
He directed these advertisers that they should remove their billboards voluntarily to avoid any kind of loss.
