PESHAWAR- North West Frontier Province (NWFP) Minister for Information Asif Iqbal Daudzai has said that the Muttahida Majlis Amal government in the province is working on a plan to start private television station in the province to promote local culture and counter the western media influence.

Speaking at ‘Guest Hour programme’ of Peshawar Press Club on April 19, 2003, Asif Iqbal said that the Mutthahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) government in NWFP had time and again requested federal government to stop un-Islamic, vulgar and Western-dominated programmes on the official PTV, but no heed was paid.

He said that the MMA government would soon announce its media policy under the guidelines given by Nifaz-e-Shariat Council, encompassing Islamic and regional culture.

He said the media role in the US-Iraq conflict had exposed Western bias adding that to combat it Islamic media and journalists should play its own role.

The provincial minister also explained provincial government policy about newspapers industry and its employees, saying that the working conditions of newspapers and its employees would be improved and the advertisement policy would be linked with implementation of wage board award.

He said that he would also remove the existing flaws and hindrances in the provincial information department.
