Newsmen hold rally in Islamabad
ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists on Monday staged a demonstration on Monday, demanding that the AJK Revenue Minister, Sardar Ashraf, and others allegedly involved in the kidnapping of a journalist, Sardar Ashiq Hussain, be suspended.
The demonstration was staged in front of Kashmir House. The demonstrators threatened to stage a hunger strike if the AJK prime minister, Barrister Sultan Mehmood, did not take actionagainst the minister.
Sardar Ashiq, news editor of Kashmir Press International (KPI), and an executive committee member of the RIUJ, was allegedly kidnapped in Rawalakot on Nov 6 by the son and other men of Sardar Ashraf.
He was kept in detention for more than 36 hours in a temple and was released on the intervention of the journalist organizations.
