The war on freedom of the press and the protection of workers’ rights has been imposed on us. Thousands of workers have lost their jobs and wages have been cut,” said Zaidi. PFUJ’s long march will start from Quetta and protests will continue with a sit-in in Islamabad till the approval of demands, he said.

In his address, PUJ President Qamar Zaman Bhatti vowed to continue the struggle for freedom of the press and the rights of media workers and said that a full workers convention would be held in Lahore on October 21 before the long march.

Problems of working journalists will be discussed. President Lahore Press Club Arshad Ansari said that Lahore Press Club is the base camp of journalists struggle and “we stand shoulder to shoulder with PFUJ to protect the rights of journalists”, he said.

The successful sit-in in Islamabad proved that there is only one PFUJ in this country and the rest are WhatsApp mushrooms. At the end of the ceremony, PFUJ Secretary General Nasir Zaidi, Arshad Ansari and other guests were presented commemorative shields by the PUJ.
