Need to promote writing culture

KARACHI (APP) – Non existent culture of book writing among local professionals, de­spite long years of substantial experiences in different fields, has largely denied nation of capacity to handle unexpected situations. Vice Chancellor of Karachi University, Prof. Pirzada Abdul Qasim said at the launching ceremony of “The Day the Mountain Moved: International Perspectives on Psycho Trauma” here on Monday evening. The book was edited and compiled by Dr Unaiza Niaz through the platform institute of Psycho-Trauma Pakistan and published by SAMA publications. The Vice Chancellor registered that people being denied of promises made to them are also exposed to constant anxiety, which was needed to be looked into perhaps both by the politicians and the psychiatrists.

Prof. Pirzada appreciated senior psychiatrist Dr. Unaiza Niaz for taken upon the responsibility of sharing her knowledge and experience by writing series of books as well as making concerted efforts to extend first hand help to people experienc­ing psychiatric trauma.

He referred to series of work including Mental Health among Women; Psycho-Social Profile of Pakistani Women; Emerging image of Pakistani Women, done in collaboration with Karachi University. The K.U Vice Chancellor observed that these works were forwarded by Dr. Unaiza in a scenario where Management of Psychiatric Consequences of Disaster are largely overlooked.

He also appreciated the film screened at the very onset of the program and said that a good documentation making many of us to realize impact of tire, earthquake on mental, psychological and emotional state of victims as well as others witnessed to it.
